Objectives
- Design and build 47 energy positive homes
- Showcase Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) that tackle the housing performance gap and construction sector skills deficits
- Create spacious and affordable eco homes that sell for a premium on the open market
Based on the learnings from our ZEB homes project, we established a consortium of leading edge partners to develop a housing scheme for 47 energy positive modular eco homes in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The eco homes are equipped with energy saving technology – roof top hybrid solar PV-Thermal panels, Earth Energy Bank ground source heat pump, battery storage, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems (MVHR) and are constructed from structurally insulated panels (SIPs). The homes also include smart home automation to maximise energy efficiency.
Our concept attracted public sector support through a Horizon 2020 (CHESS-SETUP) grant from the EU Commission. The homes have now all been built by eco development company Etopia in Corby, Northamptonshire and are selling for a premium compared to equivalent standard homes.
The scheme is now also a BEIS “Building for 2050” case study and a SEMLEP Local Industrial Strategy case study.
